How to Clean My Awesome and Beloved Boat Cover
So you’ve bought the perfect boat cover which is wind, water and nuclear resistant…but here comes the question…How do you clean it??!!! And No! Please don’t throw it in the washing machine. You will just destroy not only your boat cover but your washing machine. That’s some hefty damage there.
According to our most trusted manufacturer, Carver, advises washing it in the laundry machine with detergent will just destroy the water repellent finishing on your boat cover. This will promote the growth of mildew and you will be spending money in no time to replace your nasty fungus ingested possession.
The best way to clean your cover is to sweep any dust off first and rinse it down with lukewarm water. You don’t want boiling water to change the composition of the material. Best is to rinse is with a type of soap you use in your bathroom. Let this air dry afterwards.
For more complicated mishaps such as mildew, you will want to apply the following secret recipe
- 1 Cup of Vinegar
- 1 Cub of Borax Powder
- 2 Cups of Warm Water
Mix all this in a bucket and apply this to mildew spots and let it sit for no longer than 10 minutes. You don’t want the solution to keep eating away at your covers!! For tougher spots, we recommend using a soft brush and air dry.
